Nikon 1

Just found out they want to not have a DSLR. So really is this any better then the Sony or other brands?
Sorry if it sounds lazy but I got asked late last night and I'm now at work do cannot do much searching on the web.
Oh and it's just general photography, nothing specific.
Thanks
Simon

Thom Hogan's done a write up on them...

I think I'd rather have a Panasonic or Olympus CSC (compat system camera - like the Nikon they have changeable lenses like a SLR.) If you've never heard of these... The Oly Pen is a sort of rangefinder styled thing and the Panny GF range includes rangefinder type cameras and others not too much bigger than a largish compact, their G range look like mini DSLR's.

I have a GF1 and a G1 and I'm quite happy with the IQ. All the Panny and Oly CSC are x2 crop. I think that the Nikon is x2.7.

I'd go micro four thirds for the lens choice rather than the Nikon, a Sony nex 5n is better than both IQ wise but lenses are more limited as are the Nikon ones

Just to echo woof woof, the sensor is x2.7 while the micro four thirds cameras are x2. How about the Sony NEX range? Same size sensor as a DSLR, x1.5 crop but much smaller camera overall. Prices are in the same range as the Nikon 1 and micro four thirds cameras, 500 quid or there abouts.

To be honest the only reason I have a passing interest in the Nikon 1 is that there is/will be an adaptor available for use with standard F mount lenses. If it wasn't for that then I'd be looking at Sony, Panny or Olympus for a mirrorless system.

In any event I probably won't buy one as I feel they are a tad expensive for what they are, and at the moment they fail to tick a number of important (for me) boxes.

I've only played with these in Jessops but I was taken aback at the speed of focus - a real step change from other MILCs in this price range and I include the Nex 5N.
