Would like some opinions of the "AF Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D", reason being is I think I may have gotten it for christmas. I originally wanted a good portrait lens or' a macro lens of some sort, and I think this is what he got me. I'm not sure what this lens is good for, so I'm asking all of you for your honest opinions.

I believe the 60mm (Micro Nikkor) is more a Macro type lens than portrait Jewel ... not that I have one as my macro is 105mm Nikkor ... :thinking:

first off, I dont have one, but from what I've read, its a very good quality lens, especially for true macro work, particularly on innanimate objects such as coins etc. I reckon the 105mm Nikkor may be better for insects etc as it'll give you more working distance to reduce the chance of disturbing the little beasts :) (150mm even moreso). I have the Tamron 90mm and would sometimes like a little more working distance.
As for a portrait lens I should imagine its very good, cos the 50mm seems to be well regarded, plus the narrow DOF that the f2.8 will give should make the subjects' face really stand out well IMO :shrug:

Because he was asking alot of different questions about different lenses. I pretty much knew which one. He doesnt' know anymore than I do when it comes to lenses. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't being taken by someone in the store to just spend 'more' money. Know what I mean? He went in for one thing and came out with another which was more money so I wanted to know what the lens was for cos I dont' know,lol

Not so sure about that ... Jill always manages to surprise me ... one way or another ... :eek: ... but then she doesn't buy me camera gear ... :lol:
