Hi people, a good friend of mine is about to invest in his first dslr. He is thinking of the Nikon D3200 and would like to know if his Nikkor ED 70-300 4-5.6D (from his film camera) will work with it? I use Canon so couldn't advise from my experience. Thanks in advance.

It will work but it won't AF, he will need a d90 or d7000.

It will work but you only use auto focus as the D3200 body does not have a focus motor built into it. As above, you will need a body with built-in focus motor so that is D90 and above.

Depending on the exact spec of the lens he may also find (as well as not auto focussing) it won't meter either. Manual in every sense of the work.

Thanks for your replies, I will pass the info on to him.
