I just received this today from Classic Cameras and fired a few test shots in my living room. Nothing fancy, just with some colour, shadows and natural light; very impressive lens, just waiting on the D3 now (Monday) to try it on an FX sensor.

Images from 12bit lossless compressed, processed in NX, no tweaks whatsoever (including levels, sharpening), and all at f2.8.
Very happy :D

nice! was thinking about this lens but worried id be lacking when its starts at 24- opinions?

On an FX body, 24 is fine, on DX it can be a little restrictive. It'a cracking lens though, after the 70-200 it spends the most time on my D700.

I have the 14-24 and it is stunning although the size and very wide angle means I only use it rarely.

The 24-70 is a beautiful, beautiful lens, it's amazing! Highly, highly recommended. Perfect walk-around lens for FX.

I'll be making a point of visiting my local forest tomorrow, see how it copes amongst the shadows.
Can't wait for the D3 to arrive now:)

hmm well wont be on a FX so maybe i should stick with 18-something range, although im trying to get hold of a 24 or 28 fixed

It's great on DX too. I have a D90 and used it on a low-light shoot, didn't touch my primes once. I suppose weight/balance may be an issue (though it's not as bad as the 70-200 2.8 - good lord!) but also price as well. I think it's worth it ***. You may be eating baked beans for the next six months but it's a worthy investment. :)

lol! yeah im still tempted, a fast lens in that range would be nice and the 70-200, well that would be very nice indeed
