Hi there, I'm a new member of this forum, tonight I'm gonna be shooting in a night club in London.
I've been asked to take pictures that would give a posh atmosphere.

I'm going there with my canon eos 60d, the horrible 18-55mm f3.5-5.6, a 50mm f1.8 and a 430EX II with diffuser.

The settings I think I will use are f8, 800 ISO, shutter speed on 1/8 1/16 with the flashgun at 45° with a power between 1/16 and 1/32

I'm very excited but I feel a lot of pressure as well, would be great to receive some suggestions!

Thanks a lot

Posh atmosphere !

That can be tricky if the place is a dive bar. To pull off that sophisticated look shoot early in the evening when everybody looks sober, nobody's going to be very impressed with a stack of empty glasses in the background, or people dancing barefoot around handbags. Personally I would try some elegant poses of girls holding champagne glasses. This is not an easy one to pull off without using professional models or TFP's. I would get there early and do a full recce. Success or failure of this is going to come down to planning on this.

depending on the lighting, i think you might struggle to get any ambient at f8, a lot also depends on the definition of posh lol
there is a guide on here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/nightclub-photography-a-basic-guide.268784/
if your on Facebook here are some from one the clubs I work at

As a rough guide at this club i normally shoot at around iso 2000 - 4000 with a 16-35mm normally with a shutter speed of around 1/25th and around f3.5 going up to f5.6 for larger groups, flash on ettl maybe with a bit of - FEC if the people are coming out overexposed.
If the club has lots of coloured lights on the dance floor try and turn people so that the dancefloor is in the background.

FF any model, a 70-200mm 2.8 and that'll do you .
70-200 in a nightclub?? Have to say I've used a 50mm on FF frame in a nightclub and struggled with that being too long let alone 70-200!! And as the OP has a crop 60d that's just going to make things even harder.

Thanks a lot people!
yesterday was actually quite decent, still, if you don't mind I would upload some of the pictures in order to get tips for the editing!
cheers!

Whoopsy, In that case a 17-55 Canon or 17-50 Tamron.

My apologies.

They have come not too bad considering. Try and use the ambient light more for a realistic touch. That's when a 2.8 lens will be needed.
Have you got the EXIF info on these shots?
Have you looked at primes? like a 35mm F2?

Regards.
