I have seen some excellent shots of the nights sky with star trails around the North Star etc. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good location close to Bristol where someone could get these shots?

Also, second part of the question - how far away from a major city like Bristol does one have to travel to avoid the impact of light pollution on the shot?
Thanks

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about getting that far away from the city to avoid the light pollution, in this country if you spend too much time running away from light pollution you will miss too many great photo's, if you can see the stars you can photograph them

Check out my guide to star trails in my signature, and in that is also a link to Andrews Urban Star Trails Guide

And extream example is this I shot purely to prove a point earlier this year

Thanks Matt, I look forward to trying to capture some interesting night shots soon.

Looking at your photo I think adding something in the foreground is an excellent idea.

Exmoor is well known for it's dark skys. Maybe worth checking out.

Thanks for info - i have a week off soon :) so may check it out
