Hi, the day after I bought my camera, I went to Leeds and Bradford Airport to get some night (specifically airplane light trails)) shots having read the minimal on such a technique...:nono:

The shots were, as you'd expect, awful.

One issue I did have was the light from the actual airport really drowned out any attempts at getting shots.

Any tips would be appreciated as I'm off out again tonight for another try.

Hi Andy, first off i expect you are using a tripod, one of THE essential tools of night photography, i always use my DSLR on Manual and select a narrowish aperture say f22 to f16 for light trails and use a shutter speed of about 20 to 30 seconds (2 sec self timer) for static shots i may go a little wider on aperture with less seconds on the shutter.

Helps a lot, I'll jot the advice down before I go out.

I do have a tripod and (now!) have a remote control.

Hopefully I may be able to post a few pictures..

The settings worked really well. Unfortunetely the site I was going to was already taken by groups of cars!!

Took some decent car trails, but it was very quiet. I'll have to go back a but earlier.

You get really beautiful, dark blue sky if you take your shots before it gets really dark.

Be careful taking images around airports, the police and airport security don't like it.
