can anyone shed some light on this lens or something that is similar to it? its for my nikon D60, I really want one.
anyone got any advise, its mainly portrait shots i want to do and my standard kit lens isnt quite getting what im after.
 
It will not autofocus on the D60 as it has not got a built in autofocus in the camera nor in the lens that you mention. They have though just released a new 50mm AFS which will autofocus on the D60 as it has a focus mechanism in the lens. At around £300 iirc for the newer 50mm AF-S version. A few on here have already got it too
 
why isnt the kit lens getting what your after? not questioning your motives, just trying to asatain what new lens would help you best
 
...you can still manually focus a 50mm I believe.

It is a nice little prime with great bokeh and great in low light.

You don't mention your lenses or your ability so not sure what to advise - but it is cheap so if the worst comes to worst you can always put it on here (in 97 posts time!).

Sorry to but into your thread, but will a 50mm f1.8 auto focus on a 400d?

A different problem that others will be able to answer better than I.

Nikon decided to cut the motors on the 'lower end' cameras in the knowledge that buyers of these cameras can either manually focus or buy a lens with the motor built in. It initially saves a few quid and is not overly important if you are content to focus manually.

I think that Canon has not yet tried to be that cheap, I would imagine the equivilent lens will work fine.

the manual focus on the 18-55mm lens dosn't seen as good as the focus on a fix 50mm (the defenition seemed much better more crisp)
Then again im very new to this and may just not be spending enough time adjustion. im not too bothered about the autofocus to be honest. do sigma do a cheaper alternative?

I love the Auto Focus on this thing, it is really quick to deliver.

Ordered new 50mm f1.4 af-s from Jessops for £245 - can't wait to get it
