Hi all, you may know already but I have agreed to take over the running of this Challenge from @Gav. I have already had input from members who undertook last year’s Challenge as to themes for this year, there are 32 suggested themes. I will put all of the suggestions into a hat and draw a random theme from the hat and post that theme starting on the 1st of each month. This is a fun challenge, no points, tables or winners/losers just a way to get us shooting outside of our norms.

Rules.
Images must be taken in the month of the theme and posted here before the end of the month.
Images taken at the Nifty Fifty focal length on full frame or the equivalent focal length on crop bodies, ie. Canon 1.6 crop body plus 35 prime or 30mm on zoom etc.
No lens modifiers, this is about the purity of the Nifty Fifty FL and being close to the human eye.
Tiny crop to straighten allowed, try to keep the image as close to what the lens would see.
Cropping to new ratio, ie 16:9, is allowed, but please keep to full width and as a last resort, it is about the purity of the view from the lens above all else.
The theme will be posted on the first of each month, in the title bar of the image thread.
Shoehorns, even Lube and Crowbars are allowed to squeeze into the theme.

No AI, all your own work please.
Please list gear used.
Open to all, no sign up required.
One entry only please.

The image thread is here; https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/nifty-fifty-2026-image-thread.772073/ , this one is for chat etc.

Thank you for picking this up and keeping it running Paul (y)

Thanks for kicking this off Paul. Would you be able to add the theme too the image thread title?

I will indeed Toni, once I have printed my themes cut them up and shuffled them in my hat. It won't start until Thursday 1st Jan though.

IS any medium allowed or is it digital only?

Absolutley any medium Wayne, the only real criteria is that the shot is made using a standard (50mm equiv) so for instance 80mm (ish) for 120 square format (not sure what constitutes standard for 6x4.5) film as long as you stick to that and add the details all mediums/formats are welcome. (y)

75/80mm for 645 format - it's like square format with top and bottom reduced.

Ive got 75mm in 645
80mm in 6x6
50mm in 35mm

Will I be in near enough with those?

Spot on Wayne. (y)
Thanks Paul, I look forward to having some new interesting themes to experiment with in 50mm(which I am already a fan of).

Am I good to use the 50mm of the 24-120, I have the macro 50mm f2.8 on order ?

I've only just noticed that by complete accident the theme for January is the same as last year. :$

Not going to change it though because it was chosen at random from the themes sent in by members, we'll just have to try to get something different than last year.

I have a cunning plan, it's working out how to do it easily is the trick.

I may try and do some of these also, alongside my 52.

Will have to be 25 mm on M43rds or 50 mm on my 24-120 F4 on the Z8.

I'll see what I can come up with for January.

Or is it a reason to buy the 25 mm F1.8 for my OM5.2 lol

Welcom aboard Adam. (y)

Might have a go at the 50mm challenge, good excuse to get out
So just small crop allowed to level
No lens modifiers - so that’s no polarisers, NDs etc
Purity of the view from the lens, assume this means no or minimal PP?

TIA

Polarisers, NDs etc are fine just nothing that changes the actual field of view of the lens or makes it close up etc.

I have been thinking of ideas - but I am a fair weather tog LOL

I have an idea and depending on the weather may head out tomorrow.

I've shot from my back door and conservatory door in the past for challenges when the weather was awful. :$

Well that's my hat thrown into the ring for this challenge, and I believe it's without the application of too much of a shoe horn :)

Only just Tim, you can barely see the wheel......:)

I beg to differ. The theme is "On Wheels", not "Wheels".
I feel I included far more of the wheels than I needed to :ROFLMAO:

Oh that is clever, ...... I retract my comment ...... :giggle:
