Nice Surprise - Help!

This lovely gentleman very kindly bequeathed all his photographic gear to me and it’ll be arriving later in the week.

I haven’t a clue what’ll be in there other than that everything is film and not digital. I don’t have any experience whatsoever of film/conventional photography so would someone here be kind enough to point me in the direction of some general tutorials? Books, online, whatever – ANYTHING! I appreciate that this is a very vague request and how much easier it’d be if I could be more specific about bodies/lenses/formats(?) and so on but I won’t have the info until the stuff turns up.

It would be really helpful if anyone could just tell me where to buy film in the Notts/Leics area so I can at least hit the ground running and start using the cameras straight away.

buying film, 7dayshop.com tends to be the standard I think.

If you need some in a hurry, apparently the old stuff that poundland do for a quid a roll isn't too bad either...

Buy film by all means, but what would you buy ? you don't know what format it is, or anything.
I think you ought to wait till you get the equipment.
Maybe its all past it, maybe its 10K's worth of Leica, maybe its 10x8 Large Format View cam, :shrug:
Whatever it is, somebody here will know how to use it and what film it uses.

Wow. What an interesting and genuinely good life he had.

There are plenty of online guides and information about shooting film. As above, wait until you see what you've got before making any rash decisions.
