Right, what would I do for floodlit matches with my settings? And please don't anyone answer with don't bother taking your camera ;)

Depends on how bright the lights are but I would guess it will actually be worse the light you had for your last set. The same settings will apply, fastest aperture and ISO you can use to keep the shutter speed nice and fast.

Should be good for a laugh then tomorrow:D

Thanks by the way

Depends on the lighting I suppose. Realistically you should be up for some decent shots with fast shutter speeds as the lighting will be good and consistant (perhaps :) ).

If you get down low, a dark sky might help the shot also.

Your aim, remember, is to keep your shutter speed as fast as possible. So - up the ISO - start at 800 as was said on the other thread and then adjust it upwards from there if necessary. Aperture wide open. You're looking for a speed of ideally 1/500th but in real terms you're unlikely to get that - anything above 1/250th might let you get away with some stuff but realistically you're probably going to have to go for more static shots. how about aiming for some candids - team talks etc would make for nice images and you'd not have to worry about the shutter speed so much then.

Just remember to keep an eye on that shutter speed all the time - for what you're doing that's the key.

Thanks for your advice, I took 2 photos then gave up

That's more than I did on Sunday. My first rugby match and the weather was so foul I couldn't feel my hands, never mind about risk getting the camera out. I was too busy hanging onto the brolly :D

That's the trouble with rugby union, most of the season is just not right for photographing matches :lol::lol::lol::lol:

What's up with you wimps?! A bit of cold weather never hurt anyone!!

Kelack, probably see you tomorrow if that's still ok? Should be nice and clear tomorrow with some good shots to be had if we can get the sun behind us...

Course it's still okay. One of the guys up the club has bought a Canon 400D so is going to do the second team and we'll do the first team. I'll warn you now though, it will be a bit crowded as we have a VP lunch so we'll have at least 100 supporters tomorrow :lol::lol::lol: Luckily, as "official" tog, we get to go in front of the barrier and the sun will be behind us for the whole match which is always a bonus. Also, Vigo has it's own climate, when it's sunny in Wrotham or Snodland, tends to be cloudy and windy and cold in Vigo so bring a scarf :lol:

Looking forward to it

I love being pitch side of the barriers, especially when there's a scrummage a few feet away! :help:

Do I need a passport to come to Vigo then?! ;)

I've still got your number so I'll give you a call when I'm there. What time do you want me there for?

:razz::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Dan's got to be there for a 12.30 meet so I'll be there from then onwards, so any time and I might get a beer in for you

Cool! Make it and 4 pint pitcher and you're talking

Tripod no, but a monopod is very useful...

Tripod - bit cumbersome and not very versatile for rugby but yup, have my monopod (especially as I have unsteady hands) :D

:D Have you not seen my pictures!!!:lol::lol:

It does show for me unfortunately, a) cos I am not competent enough photographer (yet) to get the settings right (which is the main point) and b) cos my lens just isn't fast enough
