Hi,
I have got the standard 18-55 canon lens and want to upgrade to something a little better. I have around £200 to spend and have been told to look for a tamron 17-50 (non vc) version.

This will be for everyday shooting and also some studio stuff.

What do you think or any other suggestions?

Thanks jai

If you are happy with the range provided by the 18-55 then then Tamron is a good choice within that price range.

The Tamron is a brilliant lens for the money. Another option would be to keep the Canon 18-55mm for now, and add a 50mm f1.8 and a Canon 55-200mm, both can be had used well under your budget.

I have a 50mm f1.8 and and sigma 70-300 lens(love the 50mm) just wanted something that was better than the standard 18-55

What do you mean by better? I ugraded to the 17-55 2.8 and, although I love the lens (it's the one that spends most time on my camera, it did make me appreciate just how good that little kit lens is.

A much underated bit of gear!

I wanted a bit more reach than 55mm for a walkabout lens so I traded mine in with MPB for a EFS 17-85 USM and I'm very happy with that as a general purpose lens. I am considering a 50mm though as I've heard they are very good value for money.

Does anyone know the difference between the tamron 17-50 vs the canon 17-85 usm?
