I have been thinking for awhile of letting the full frame go and moving into a more compact Nex 7. I shoot just for fun and usually don't print anything bigger than 8X10. My thinking is I will take the camera more places. If I do move to the Nex 7 I will not keep the full frame, just don't need two cameras. I'm not to worried about low light shooting, I do shoot some macro, but I can get a macro lens and the rest is just general shooting. The one thing I worry about is image quality as the full frame Nikon gives me great IQ. thoughts

thanks

With the nature of macro photography, sensor size doesn't actually make a huge difference; I've seen stunning images produced by bridge cameras.

You might potentially struggle to find an e-mount macro lens; the only one currently on offer afaik is the Sony 35mm macro which isn't a great length for macro, but then again since it is macro, you could always just get an adapter as manual focus isn't usually too much of a burden.

It depends on what lenses you use at the moment and how much you're willing to spend moving? There will be a step down in quality, that is inevitable going down in sensor size, but as an example the Carl Zeiss Sonnar T*E 24mm f/1.8 ZA is a lovely, lovely piece of glass on the e-mount, and then with adapters you can shoot voitglander and (if you must) leica glass as well.

Agree with the above tbh. It's going to give you a reduction in quality but that's to be expected.

The way I see it is if you aren't taking professional images just personal stuff and you aren't taking out your current camera then its a no brainer.

I personally use an NEX5 and I love it to pieces and it goes with me on all my days out.

I downgraded to a NEX 5 from DSLR then got an entry level D5100 to go with it. Even though the NEX 7 EVF is very good, it is different to using optical viewfinder. Also, AF will be contrast detect but that hasn't made that much of a difference to my shooting. I use the NEX a lot with manual lenses from my Voigtlander film rangefinder. Also cheap ebay finds like the Jupiter 8 and my Fujian 35mm 1.7 cctv lens arrived today in the post :-D
