I don't know if this post is in the right place,to be honest with you I am crap at photography but I have spent a lot of money so I had better try and get better.I have just bought a Cokin filter holder and I want to do those long exposures in daylight so what filter would I need and are they any good?

You need a neutral density filter, they come in various strengths 2 stops 4 stops etc An el cheapo option is to get a welding glass filter, enables really long exposures though you need to correct the colour cast that it gives. Search for a thread on this.

It might also be worth considering a circular polorizer as stacking ND filters alone might not give the required shutter speed if it's quite sunny.
