I am thinking of trying my hand at landscapes so I wondered what lens would be good to start with, I have a canon 200mm f/2.8 L usm mkii which I'll use to start with, thanks in advance
 
Hi Martin and welcome to the forum!
Usually Landscape photography is associated with wide angle lenses but longer lenses are of course used. Zoom lenses are popular as they assist with getting that all important composition correct. Using Prime lenses make you think a little more about composition. using a longer lens such as your 200mm would mean you have to consider your composition a little more. Common Lenses would be in the area of something like 16mm - 30mm focal length, but see how you get on with the 200mm before you splash out on a new lens.
 
I see it as this:

If you can stand on/in your subject then wide angle is good.

If you see a view 'over there' and want to capture it then you want a telephoto.

Virtually all of my landscapes are telephoto and in the olden days telephoto was typically recommended for landscapes - this UWA thing is relatively new.
 
It really depends on your style and the locations you'll be shooting... and how much you want to spend. If you prefer primes the zeiss 18mm or 21mm are good WA options or the Canon TSE lenses are perfect.

Personally, I use the Canon 16-35mm f4 an awful lot.
