I was playing with a set of ebay triggers last night and noticed if my shutter speed was faster than 1/100 the shot was taken before the flash fired.
Is this normal?
 
It sounds as though your shutter speed is faster than the sync speed for the flash. I think its normal enough

You should be able to sync to 1/200 with the combo you have. What settings are you using on the flash?
