I have been working up until now with some table top mini studio lights and they are no longer what I need!
I have read several of the threads on lighting, but was wondering if there is any current advice on what best to buy?

Out of preference I would like a two light solution with brollies and soft box. But have no intention of going down the cheap set of eBay route.

Suggestion please?

What you need is the ability to control the lights and fit the right kind of light shapers to them.

Frankly, once you've gone past the fleabay route, there is little to choose between various makes, they all have strengths and weaknesses but they all do the job.

I'm a bit biased, but it seems to me that one of the possibles for you is this Lencarta SmartFlash kit

Hi Garry, thank you for your answer and yes i can see you would be slightly biased! Than, you for the link, I will have a look at the specs.
Best wishes

I am leaning towards a continuous lighting sources think. Any suggestion on that front?

Yes.
Don't.

Continuous lighting won't give you (anywhere near) the same level of control, because few if any modifiers are available for it.

It has only a tiny fraction of the power of flash, you'll need high ISO settings and low shutter speeds

Despite the low power, it appears very bright to your victims subjects and is uncomfortable for them

I now have recommendation for: Interfit and Lencarta for non continuous lighting sources. Also the recommendation to go with one light only to start with. Any recommendations / comments regarding interfit? Trying to get a balanced view. Many thanks.

What are you photographing Wendy, you say 'small table top light kit' so are you looking to upgrade to better lighting for product photography?

Wendy
have you been on any studio courses or been in a fully equipped studio much?
if not, I do recommended it before buying any kit

Hi, thank you for all of the responses.
Currently I do landscapes, fine art and some product photography. My images are then sold on greetings cards, post cards and prints etc. I want to expand my options and I am limited by my current lighting. I have a spare room down stairs which i am slowly colonising, hubby has put up a permanent pole for hanging back drops. I intend to expand my stock image portfolio, service some of the request for pets and children I ages. The usable space in the room is not huge so I need to be able to control power. Am trying to get as much research done before going and playing with things so I don't get over excited and buy something wrong!

cabn recommend lencarta kit used it in the past always good value and more importantly top quality
