Ok so i'v been wanting to give this whole off-camera flash thing ago for a while, and now have a bit of time to have a play.

I have a Nikon D80 (for the moment), a Nikon SB-900, and an older Nikon SB-24. I know how to wirelessly control the SB-900 via my D80's pop up flash, but obviously the SB-24 predates this sort of technology. I was hoping someone might be able to help me and suggest how I can control the SB-900 and SB-24 at the same time without buying expensive wireless gear.

Can I for example control the SB-900 wirelessly via the pop up flash, whilst simultaneously triggering the SB-24 via a sync cable? (Or are there better ways?)

Any advice would be a huge help.

Thanks, Rogan

simplest way, because you can't merge CLS and any triggering system for the sb24, is to get a set of radio triggers (off ebay or similar). They work ok, if you get a bad one, just send them back. They'll cost about £20 for one transmitter and two receivers.

You can also go for optical triggers, but these will be triggered whenever they sense any flash... not good when working with other photogs around.

An optical trigger on the SB-24 is probably the cheapest and easiest way to do it, although I think it would be feasible to wire the SB-24 to the SB-900 using a couple of AS-10s and an SC-27 cable, but a set the optical or even a set of Ebay triggers would be a lot simpler!
