Hi from a Newbie in Glasgow. I'm an English guy who moved north of the border a few years ago now.
I'm a bassist and guitarist and often take pics of the various instruments I own. It really turns into a bit of a "show and tell" through the various internet musical forums. I also work on instruments from time to time and take photos throughout the process so the owner knows what's going on.
I have a little Fujifilm Z3, but found it took me literally 40 shots to get something decent (thank goodness for digital!). Either things weren't lined up right or out of focus; generally a complete mess. My wife (who's been taking photos for years) would come in, line the camera up, take 1 shot (maybe 2), say "all done" and walk out again! How annoying :bang:
So when my wife bought a new camera, I thought I'd try to get to grips with taking photos as well, so I researched in print and on the net, sold a couple of guitars which I wasn't using as much as I used to, and took the plunge.
So I'm learning slowly and finding my way around the camera. It's all a lot of info to take in, but I'm sure it'll all sink in eventually. I've had a read around here already and it seems a friendly place which is a relief for someone starting out.
By the way, if anyone has problems with electric guitars or basses just let me know and I'll try and help you out. Maybe I could get some photography tips in exchange
PS. I have the username 7string as I play a 7 string bass guitar.
