Hi 1st poster here

I have saved for a while before taking the plunge getting my first SLR. I taken delivery of my Canon 450D purchased second hand today and I'm over the moon with it. I can see this hobby is going to be expensive :shake::D

I'd be most grateful for any advice with regards to equipment esp Lenses. I have the standard 18-55mm but was wondering what my next purchase should be. I want to get it right and would prefer better equipment second hand.

I will be mostly photographing my children naturally when playing etc to capture those special moments. Wildlife and sports will also be on the agenda.

What would you guys recommend I should be watching the classifieds for?

Thanks in advance

Tony

Sell it and get a Nikon lol

Only joking if you start looking in the for sale section you can get some great stuff but the prices can be a bit higher than ebay because most of the equipment for sale here is top notch and probably better looked after than new but dont run before walking get to know the camera and enjoy it then start to go on the empty wallet all the time route

I would play around with it before you get too carried away with buying new lenses. That way you can see what you like to shoot and can buy according to your needs, such as if you like landscpae get a wide angle, like sport get a telephoto etc etc.

But if you want to get good shots of the kids, then look at the 50mm 1.8 (otherwise known as the nifty fifty). These can be picked up for around £55 second hand and are a great lens for portrates. But if it is more candid type shots you are looking to take, then you will need something with abit more reach such as the canon 55-250, which is supposed to be pretty good, these can be had for around £180, and coupled with the 17-55 would give you good range.

But you will probably want to upgrade both of these within the year, if the bug bits you as much as everyone else on here.
