Hi all. Now I will not say i'm new to photograph, but my experience is to just point and shoot. Are there any good places on the net where I can learn different aspects of photography. I need to learn about apetures, focal length, depth of field etc.
I have a pentax istD, off to Spain on a camping trip next week and would so much like to get more from my camera. Any help apprieciated.

Heres a good a place as any, to learn all about different aspects of photography,

As for your trip away I would do lots of research on the area, so you get an idea of what to expect and the various places of interest are, that interest you,

Welcome to TP - where about are you going, coast, town or mountains, and what sort of subjects do you like to shoot?

beg, borrow or steal a copy of understanding exposure by Bryan Patten the first couple of chapters will explain them for you and its very easy reading.

Yep, grab a book, even if you take it with you.
Apertures and focal lengths are not too difficult to learn and learning the theory will mean you can apply the right effects to the right subject matter.

Have a lovely time :)

For landscape pics use f11 or higher so that you can get good depth of field. I like to use the wide end of my kit lens 18mm, and try to get some foreground interest. I use RAW format, and take 2 photos, 1 exposed for the sky and one for the foreground. When I'm back home if I find I can't get enough detail in the sky I blend the 2 photos together in CS3 to get a good shot. You get the best photos on cloudy but bright days, as on very clear days you tend to get bland skys.

For landscapes, often the best light is at either end of the day, so no snoozing or early nights! :)
