Hello all...

I'm new to the forum even though i did sign up on 06-08-2008

My aim back then was to buy a half decent camera when i signed up to this forum but car priorities came up and obviously they came 1st.

I'm no expert at photography and never will be.
My aim is to just take pictures when i'm out and enjoy looking back at them and my progression.

I've only ever owned 1 camera before the 1 i just bought and that was just a point and shoot Kodak 7.0mp. Easy share... Nothing special at all!

I used to try and take decent-ish pictures on it but i could never get any decent quality back from it so i allways felt like i was being pulled back from progressing.

Anyway, enough of the chit chat :)

I've gone and bought a 500D now which should hopefully arrive this week before i head off to London on sunday... FINGERS CROSSED!

It will be my 1st expensive half decent camera for many years to come i hope.

I hope to be posting up some pictures and getting back feedback in the next few weeks + reading up on how to do's... If you have any ?????

If anyone has any tips for when i'm taking pics down there please feel free to post on here or PM me.

Also if anyone else has the 500D please could you bang your review up.

Cheers :)

weclome:thumbs:

there are no such things as experts only poeple who know more than you. i can quite agree a better camera help but not because it costs more, they tend to boost you confidence in the camera , and therfore you will be more relaxed when taking photos.

i love my d300s because any bad photos are down to me . the thing about photography it captures the moment in time , not the emotion behind the reason you pressed the shutter.

i hope you enjoy you new camera and the forum.

Cheers Steve

Thanks for the welcome steve :)
I was getting worried i was going to be a loner

I'm finding searching for tutorials or best ways to do things hard to find.

E.G. - When taking a photo of something like the London Eye at night do i use a long exposure to bring out the lighting that is stationed on the wheel?

It's little starter questions that i mite have but i don't want to be posting numerous threads on here.

Cheers again for the reply.

im no expert myself but from my attempts i have learned that

if the wheel is moving a long exposue will show movement , if you want a static looking shot you need a wide apiture (2.8) , the largest iso your camera can handle without noise and as faster shutter speed as you can get

i thnk ther is an example in my flickr photos , i am organising a meet later this year based around night shots . no date is yet fixed.

if you want a meet in the mean time just ask.

Cheers Steve

hi and welcome
in london shoot everything..tourist spots, street scenes, alleyways, parks, candids, and as i like to do in pubs

its local , and it will give you some practice. the steps near the arndale center is probaly the best location. The london eye wont be that different

Cheers Steve

have you been on it...its luxury compared with the manchester/french eye

i have been on both...

i ve done both the london eye and manchester , the views for the london eye are superb. i meant the method of capturing the wheel at night , london is a long way to travel.

manchester is a good practice

cheers Steve

Thanks for more replies.

The Cam arrived today and my SD card should arrive tomorrow.

Just been having a fiddle around because it came with 2 bars of battery but it's dead now so for the next 2 hours i'll have to just wait lol.

Love it already.

Oh god trying to get my head around this camera is proving to be difficult lol.

E.G on my old camera when you select long exposure it takes a long exposure but for some reason it takes it straight away on this...
I need to have a more detailed read i think.

The book seems to suggest that you already know all the terminoligy when having a camera like the 500D lol.

I'll have more of a fiddle tomorrow.

Can't really take it out till my new bag arrives as i don't want it getting damaged or dirty ha!
