New York! New York!

Ooh, another thing we really enjoyed was the Oyster Bar in Grand Central, went back twice in fact. Amazing place, if only to pop in and have a drink and a couple of shucks.

We deliberately choose a hotel that doesn't include breakfast as we like eating in different establishments. NY breakfasts are part of the experience.

We considered that and were planning to skip the hotel breakfast on one or two days to have a Diner Breakfast. I pre planned to lunch in a couple of more authentic diners when we were away from the obvious tourist areas and there were more locals in them than tourists.

We found eating breakfast in more efficient time wise for us and after eating NY lunches, evening meals and the occasional cheesecake stop we were glad of a lighter breakfast. The breakfast still had a New York feel, just more subtle/modern. It worked for us and I think we'd do the same if we went again. I guess it depends on the Hotel, I can't imagine the experience in a large hotel chain being as nice.

I agree you should probably try a Diner Breakfast at least once though.

i have always hated overpriced and usually tired hotel breakfasts and the coffee they serve is often dire - part of the fun of holiday is finding nice breakfast places - you occasionally get independent hotels that make an effort but chain hotel breakfasts are not so good i find
