Hi everyone!

My name is Ross, and I'm from Northern Ireland, new to photography, but love it, and love trying to improve!

I got into photography after coming home from Cuba - my wife and I went there for our anniversary, and I wished I had something more than a 'point and click' because even though I could see potential photographs, I just couldn't get them to do what I wanted!

My wife bought me a 450D with 18-55 kit lens for my birthday, and I've been snapping away ever since (and buying bits and pieces for it myself!)

I'm loving reading about photos here, and trying to pick up, but everyone seems to say 'just get out and shoot - you'll pick it up!' but I dont know... I think if I understood more about photos I could possibly take some better ones.

Here are some of the 'better' photos I think I've taken.... completely open to critique so fire away!

btw - these are as shot - I dont know how to use PS or anything (yet!) so I'm sure there could be some improvements that could be made, but I'm kinda of the opinion that it's better to take a good photo from the beginning as opposed to doing loads of post processing to make the photo - but thats just me!

Hi Ross, :welcome: to TP

We all learn differently, but certainly getting out about seems to be the best way, especially if you can go out a shoot with others

p.s I love the shot of Robyn, great smile :)

some good shots there mate... i am the same as you and i saw pics but coudnt acheive them with a point and click and my lass bought me a sony alpha 350... i love it... just learning from scratch is hard...

thanks everyone - as I said - they are some of the ones I feel are good photos - but like I say, I'm open to full critique - otherwise, I'll go on thinking I'm great, but never actually improve!

would I be best adding the photos seperately in various sections to see what other think, or leave them here and hope some more visit?!

The sections are there for folks to share their work so it's best to post the photos in the relevant sections to get the relevant C&C.

Welcome onboard Ross, looking forward to seeing some of your stuff on here.

Prepare to be bankrupt, an expensive hobby.
