Just a little announcement. As some of you know, for some while I've been working on the idea of opening a lens rental shop. Well, the good news is that

will be opening next week. Until then, you're welcome to browse the web site. There are still a few odds and ends to tidy up, so a few details might change - and of course I need to provide a means to let people pay!! - but it's reached the state where it's good enough to let you see what's on offer.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

great idea Stewart and good luck with the venture, i'm just looking at the site now and it looks good :)

Nice idea :), might think about using you in the future.

Do allow 'pre-booking'? Eg, say if i want a lens for a week in march, can i pre book it now?

good idea! :) i was looking into this a few days ago, with limited success as im looking to rent a lens to take on a trip in March, have bookmarked ur site!

what a cracking idea. bookmarked.

The very best of good luck with this one Stewart. I know there were lots of doubts about this idea when you discussed it previously and I'd love to see you show it's a workable prospect.

There are some lenses there that I KNOW I will be wanting to use at those prices for various jobs. Do you know yet what sort of deposit you'll be taking on the 500 f4? :)

Great idea. I wish you all the very best with your venture.

Yay! Just what we want!
Boo! Nikonist site.

I've had a good look round your site and rad the FAQ, firstly, i think you should really consider Nikon lenses, rather than be oblivious to then, learn about them, you'll double your market ;).

Secondly, and only because i'm a very cautious person, i'd consider using your service but however careful i am with lenses (and i am), i'd be too worried that something would go wrong with the lens through no fault of my own and then i'd have to stump up the cost of the lens. If it were my fault fair enough but it'd be like a lottery. I suppose that's the chance you have to take.

I'm definitely considering a hire though :) (100-400 or 28-300 maybe), a 'try before you buy' service hehe.

It's covered in the FAQ. The short answer: when the shop opens, we'll take reservations if you want to hire a lens for a week or more.

And it's just occurred to me that I forgot to mention in the FAQ that we'll be taking reservations up to 3 months ahead.

Just a quick question... are you doing Nikon Lenses, or just Canon?
Only Canon stuff?
I think you should really consider Nikon lenses, rather than be oblivious to then, learn about them, you'll double your market ;).
Well, we had to start somewhere. Last time I looked, Canon had about 45% of the DSLR market and Nikon about 35%, and I have a Canon, so that seemed the best place to start.

We will be buying some Nikon lenses as soon as the business starts generating enough money. I'm sure you'll appreciate (if you think about it) that the cash flow is horrible!

Well, you don't have to take the chance. Nobody's twisting your arm here.

As mentioned in the FAQ, we're looking at insurance. But you might already be covered under your existing insurance policy (home contents, or specialist gear policy if you have one). And even if not, you should find it fairly easy to get a hired lens added to your policy. Certainly most of the specialist photographic insurers will do that.

Guys, I wanted to post here rather than just close the thread and remove it, purely because of the amount of interest generated already.

As you all know we've been clamping down on commercial promotion threads recently as stated in the rules. However to remove this now would simply generate a pile of "where's that thread gone" so rather than do that I've removed the link for now and am simply closing it.

For clarity I've already spoken to Stewart to explain the current situation.

For information folks, the shop is now open.

There is an "official" thread for it in the "For Sale" section, here.

This thread will now be closed again, so don't post here!

The prices do indeed seem reasonable :)

In fact I might seriously consider hiring a 400 f5.6 to see if it's worth buying.

Did I read it right on there that TPf admins get the lens free for a 1month:eek: thats very very kind of you ;)
