After a long period of going round in circles looking at cheap bridge cameras and then working my way up to dSLRs and lenses that I couldn't afford and then starting all over again, I took advantage of the recent price cuts and bought a fuji s6500.

I bought it at a well known high st shop for £150. They only had the display model so I tried for a further discount with no luck but he did give me a free extended 3yr warranty. Waiting for details to arrive but I know these usually get a bad press but it was free. The usb cable was missing from the box so he gave me a free card reader instead. Only USB Hi Speed, which I think is usb1.1(?) but again it was free.

First impressions are that it feels pretty solid, reasonable ergonomics - I had an Oly OM2 years ago and it is nice to get back to a bigger slr style camera. Manual zoom ring was a big plus for me and it feels quite smooth. Controls are quite nicely laid out although there are always niggles; why is the raw option still buried in the setup menu? This was the same in my fuji E550 I bought a couple of years ago and everyone moaned about it then. Overall I am very impressed so far for the price. It obviously isn't an slr but then it was much cheaper.

I can start off with mem card and batteries I already own but didn't have a case. Luckily I found one in a cupboard that fits perfectly. Although, I didn't realise Cadbury made camera cases ;)

It seems most people here are dSLR owners but I know there were a few of the OCUK crowd that started with fuji superzooms. Any tips from current or past owners welcome.

Few test images in General Photos.

They don't, Galaxy is Mars :p Which according to today's news are no longer vegetarian friendly apparently. By the by...

Good choice of camera, I believe :) I have recently ordered the lesser model 5600 from Amazon, ample for my needs, and can't wait to try it. Have fun with yours!

Oooh! I`ve got one too! The usb lead is just a standard one. The s5600 is also an excellent camera!

I have the 5600 as a back up.

Fuji make some nice cameras still very pleased with mine even though i have a DSLR too.

:help: Ive just bought an S6500 too, I cant figure out how to get the continuous mode to shoot faster than 1 frame every second or so. I can do the first and last three settings. Does anyone know any tips??? My girlfriend does showjumping so I need to snap some jumping fast moving shots. Any advice???????

Hi, hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread :D but noticed it was about a camera we've just bought.

First impressions were that it was an excellent camera, took a few indoor pics with it last night and they were fine, today I've been taking a few shots out in the garden (very sunny day) and they are disappointingly too bright, the sky is white instead of the blue that it should be and everything appears 'overexposed' and lacking the rich colour that you'd expect, I've tried changing a few of the setting but to no avail.

What am I doing wrong :bang:

Hope someone can give me a few pointers.
Thanks in advance :D

I've got a Fuji S5600, the Fuji's are cracking cameras for the money, decent CCD, decent ergonomics, great zoom magnification, take standard batteries.

Only down side is the confinement to xD memory and the resolution of the viewfinder.

I've also got a Nikon D50 which is obvioulsy a different class of camera but the Fuji is still a great buy....

Now I just have to figure out how to use either................:)

Another Fuji S5600 user here. I'm very impressed with it (probably easily impressed though, having never owned a DSLR) although I do wish it had manual zoom instead of the annoyingly slow zoom buttons.

But a few people have been very surprised that my shots are taken with just a bridge camera - it can produce some excellent results and I assume its brother the 6500 can too!

I used to have an S7000 which was a great camera especially for macros. Minimum focusing point was only 1cm in super macro mode!

i have a fugi s5000 and the s5700

love the 5000 and not got used to 5700 yet really due to the fact that every time i plan to go out it rains

still learning and just starting to look at photoshop [imslow at understanding it though]
