Hi all

Im Andy im 40 and i am new to photography.

Phew now i have finally joined the forum.

I Live in chester and as a kid always had a little interest in photography after having a go with my dads Monolta 7000. Took it to Italy for a college trip and loved taking pictures of the architecture and the beautiful scenery.

Couldnt afford my own so been putting up with a bridge camera then a point and shoot Panasonic TZ5. feel the time is right to start to learn more about photography and decided to buy a Sony Alpha a6000 to start me off.

Currently reading " understanding exposure " by Bryan Peterson.

looking to learn the art with a view to taking better more interesting pictures.

Thought i would come and say hi, and hopefully get some constructive criticism from any photos i dare to post, though im not confident enough yet.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Andy

Hi Andy and welcome. You should find lots of info. And hopefully plenty of constructive criticism on here.

Hi Andy, And welcome aboard TP, looking forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing some of your images on the various forums. "Enjoy".

Hi Andy and welcome

Welcome to the forums Andy.

I'm close to Chester and the City and surrounding areas are really good for all genres of photography. It's well served by Camera Clubs as well, with clubs at Chester, Deeside, Hawarden and Mold, I'm a member of the latter. Club membership offered me a fast track learning process on a wide variety of photography techniques and possibilities. It gave me access to experts in specific areas and Club members own and use a wide variety of camera types and makes. Most of the Clubs have a program from September to April and meet on a specific day each week in season, that day varies from Club to Club. Worth considering if you don't mind the club environment and a typically older than average age member. There is also a huge mine of information on this very forum about anything and everything, or a quick question will normally result in a quick answer or some informed opinions.

Pathways Studio is also in the City with plenty going on, events are notified via Facebook and I have learnt a huge amount about lighting techniques from fellow photographers and the owner Colin Grist. Highly recommended if you have or could have an interest in portrait work and a camera that can fire studio flash via hotshoe remotes.

Chester is lucky to be served by two specialist camera shops, a Branch of London Camera Exchange and Camera Solutions, both are friendly and helpful and I have bought new and second hand from both, although I think Camera Solutions second hand items are priced higher. Photo equipment is also sold in Currys and John Lewis but the staff aren't very knowledgeable. However, these particular stores both seem to have a number of Branch specific deals every now and again, such as brand new lenses at less than half price and end of line cameras with big reductions, over and above the national promotions, so worth keeping an eye on.

Ahh a club sounds like a good idea. had a little look at the chester one but its on a night i cant do easily. will have to look up the hawarden and deeside ones. do you know the names of them?

Thanks for the welcome
