new smaller more powerful flashes in the pipeline?

I'm sure I read somewhere the next gen of flashes arent far away which would be smaller, lighter and brighter, but I cant remember where.

I read strobist (ofc) and the occasional mag. Did I dream this nugget of info, or could someone point me to a link with more detail?

I think you dreamed it.

Batteries are big, and you need a bit of separation between the flash and the lens so the height helps. Plus all the accessories used to improve the light always make them bigger, and usually the bigger the better for those.
 
I did read about LED flash and battery technology advancing at an alarming rate but as to what stage they are at now I'm unsure.
 
I had a little play with LED flash stuff for building myself a ring flash and LEDs are crap at it (at least the current gen ones I was looking at) :(
