Evening all

I've had my eye on a Sigma 70-200 2.8 for my D7100 as a Christmas present to start building my way up to trying out wedding photography for willing vic-.. Uh, participants over the next few months. But... On the way past my local Wants earlier, I noticed a used Nikon 80-200 2.8 for sale at £599, compared to the panamoz price I found at about £650 (I'm not bothered about grey imports btw).

I know there'll be a weight difference which I'm not bothered about, but which do you think I'd be best aiming for?

I cant say for the Nikon but I do have the Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS and in my opinion its a cracking lens for the money. I also had the older HSM II version before it and that was OK but nowhere near as good as the newer OS version.
You sure about grey imports? Theres a 3 year warranty on UK sourced lenses:)

PS I use the Siggy on a D7000 so still a DX camera and it works well:)

Hi Nick
I've just taken delivery of a new Sigma 70-200 lens DG HSM OS etc, and use it on my D7000. I haven't really had time to play with it yet so I can't give any performance comments about it, BUT the comment I can make is it's huge and heavy.
I noted your comments regarding not being to concerned about it's weight but I was suprised just how careful you've got to be to avoid camera shake even at high shutter speeds - I think user style will overcome this problem after some practise.

Thanks chaps.

To be honest, I was sold on the sigma anyway but read some very favourable stuff on the nikon that I wanted some ideas on. As for the weight, I was lucky enough to try out the nikon 2.8 vr II on my cam a few weeks back in an LCE that's in my home town - I agree that it wiould need practice to work with, but despite being quite a slight b****r I'm adaptable where necessary so hopefully I'll make it work ;)

Check out the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 vc. I was going to go for the sigma until I read about this. In some a cases it's better than the manufacturer own lenses
