Sigma today announced two new telephoto zooms - one for APS-C cameras and one for full-frame. The APO 50-150mm F2.8 II EX DC HSM uses no less than four SLD elements in its design to minimize aberrations and HSM focusing to keep the noise down. Internal focus and zoom ensure there is no change to the size of the lens during use. The APO 70-200mm F2.8 II EX DG MACRO HSM has a modified layout to improve close-up performance to make better use of the maximum 1:3.5 subject magnification ratio. Pricing and availability are to be announced but click though for specifications.

Because the added cost would take those lenses out of the market they're intended for I suspect.

I Still have the original HSM version (no DG, no macro), and it still performs fine. The images I have seen from the subsequent versions don't seem to be any different, and so I ask, what was wrong with the previous version, and if you are going to spend the RND money to upgrade it, why not just add OS. And as for cost if they can put OS in a cheap consumer lens like the 18-200 OS, then it must not be that expensive to implement.

Looks like sigma aren't too certain on the OS tecnology seeing as they only use it in two lenses, neither of which are fast aperture lenses. Perhaps OS in fast aperture lenses is more expesive to produce.

Interesting that one of the new features for the 50-150 is better image quality at min. focus. I nearly got one instead of the 135L last month but wasn't sure because of some reports about this very issue. Think I might have to re-consider as I did see a nice 4 lens set up consisting of 2 bodies with the following:

16-35L
50-150
50 f/1.4
135L

Which would cover just about everything I need :)

Sigma need to put OS on the 70-200 F2.8 and give Canon a run for there money.

Sod that, the Canon lot are already catered for. what they NEED to do is make more lenses with the minolta/sony mount and fit HSM motors to em.

That is not likely to happen soon. Sony have a partnership or deal with Zeiss, so you are more likely to get Zeiss lenses (especially since they can charge an arm and a leg). Also since Sony now hold the IP for all the Minolta mount, they are not the kind of company to open up the mount for third party manufacturers.

As it is for EF mount lenses, Sigma reverse engenier the HSM information, so some of the older lenses don't work on the newest cameras.
