New Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 HSM £649

Looks like the new sigma lens is going to be a bit more than first thought, available from RGB tech for pre order at £649, HERE well thats me out, i wouldn't pay nothing like that for it :thumbsdown:

I have the non HSM version and am absolutely delighted with it. I paid £400 less than than this one. It must be one helluva a lens for that price!

I had the 24-70 when i had pentax ,it was never of the camera,brilliant portrait lens .The new siggy will have to be prity amazing to warrant that hike in price .

It would have to be some lens considering the Canon is around £100 dearer and the non HSM is just over 1/3rd the price.

I just took delivery of the non HSM version from jessops sale today and so far, well pleased with it

OK this is a question? QUALITY WISE is this going to rival the nikon 24-70? The new sigma 50mm .4 is fantastic. May hold off on the nikon 24-70 to see how good this is.

I have a £250 upper limit on Sigma glass....which is why I'll probably never get a 120-300

It'll have to go some to beat the Nikkor - which is the best standard zoom available in any mount.

Well if its weather sealed and beats the Brick IQ wise, then maybe I'll consider it. But if it doesn't, a few more £££ will buy me the Brick. But then if it beats the Brick, maybe Canon will upgrade it with "IS" ... so the waiting continues....:bonk:

Don't we normally see pre order prices that are also higher than actual retail prices?
I'm sure the last lens I pre-ordered (A long time ago mind) actually sold for less.

Quite true, but considering the price of the original it's seems quite a high starting price, unless of course it is that much better :shrug:

I think this lens has massive potential, considering how good the new Sigma 1.4 is (if you have a good copy, we won't get into that). Im going to wait and see how good it is, anyone know a firm release date?
