Hi,
Has anyone seen the new magazine Practical Photoshop yet?
It looked appealing to me when I saw it advertised so I took a look in W H Smith and it looked reasonable, until I saw the cover price £5.99p, for a monthly magazine - they're having a laugh!!!!!!!!!!!
A browse through the local library and books on Photoshop can be had with plenty of information, and it will not cost £5.99p.
It's one magazine I will not be buying.

The trouble with many mags is they repeat themselves every few months or so, one even used the same picture for the same tutorial which was taking the ****.

I had a quick flick through that, some interesting stuff. I agree with Wayne though, they tend to repeat themselves after a while...let's see how long they last!

If you've just spent £540 on Photoshop, I'm sure £5.99 if dirt cheap to learn how to use it. ;)

But its not 5.99 to learn how to use all of ps, its 5.99 to learn a few of the million things there is to learn.

I don't find 5.99 a great deal Tbh but not everyone is in the same situation and have the same views

£5.99 and most of it's just advertising and "news/reviews" you'll get about three tutorials out of that.

After a few months of £5.99s you could buy the photoshop CS5 bible or similar and have everything you need to know without all the waiting and fuss that magazines bring.

Is there any goodies with it? actions brushes etc. and are there video tutorials?

Some mags let you subscribe online, with a really big saving over shop prices.

I get my Golf World mag delivered before it is in the shops and only pay £10 per quarter by direct debit

I haven't seen the mag, but I wouldn't pay over £5 for any mag. :nono:

The problem Photoshop mags have is that the program can do so many different things, and appeal to so many different users. That may sound great, appealing to all those potential customers, but you buy a mag, or at least I do, because there is a lot in it of interest, especially when it is expensive. In my case, having 2 articles related to Photography, 2 articles related to Animation, 2 articles related to Digital Painting, 2 articles related to Web Design and an article on making 3D Images would mean 5-6 articles of little, if any interest.

And as with the camera mags which also have Photoshop tips, it starts off with loads of useful information, but quickly descends into gimmicky effects (imho) as they don't want to repeat themselves with basic information. The few times I've bought the Digital Photo magazine it has screamed 'GIMMICK' as far as the Photoshop tips are concerned. It is apparently the best selling camera mag, so they may have the formula right.

Or they are in many many supermarkets with little competition. ;)
