Hi Folks, iv had my A200 a few months now and really really love it and getting to grips with it!!

Im now looking for a new lens as the sony kit lens is a bit turd!!...im on a very tight budget and dont know what to go for!..

I would like something with a little more range i.e. Minolta 70mm-210mm or Sigma 70mm-200mm. These average around £100 on ebay..

Also is it worth my while replacing the kit lens??...maybe with a Minolta 28-80mm or 35-70mm as these are around the £50 mark

Does anyone have any experiance of these lenses and their quality??

Also any recomendations you guys could give would be great....bearing in mind im on a budget...

Thanks in advance

Paul..

I've got the 18-70 kit lens with my A200 but I never used it so can't comment on its turdiness.

I can tell you the Tamron 24-135 SP is superb on the A200 (and A900) but you probably won't find one - less esoteric is the 100-200 f/4.5 - these are very small and very light, about £80. I've got one and it seems very nice.

I assume by 70-210 you mean the "Beercan" f/4 - tbh I find these a bit overrated. I've tried two and both are a bit disappointing considering the hype.

Cheers folks, ill have a look into them...

Everything i shoot with the kit 18-70 lens seems dull and lifeless instead of bright and vibrant..am i doing something wrong or is it just the poor lens??

Paul...

I personally never had any issues with the 18-70.

On my Flickr there is a set called ' London Excel Motor Show 2008 '

These were all taken with this lens.

All the close up shots on the ' War and Peace 2008' set were using the 35-105.

I have a few lenses for sale in the classifieds incl. a 28-80mm a bit cheaper than that.

How about adding the Tamron 55-200mm? It's small, light, cheapish these days (used to be very cheap) & performs well above it's price. The compromise came in it's max aperture & it needs decent light.

i never had the kit lens on my a300, but i used a tamron 28-75 f2.8, great and sharp, nice DoF play too. it's now up for sale, please look on classifieds

Unfortunatly guys i cant get into the 'Classifieds' as i'v not had 100 posts yet....Bummer...

Ive got an A200 and have been using the kit lens since I got it. To be honest its given me some decent photos but have never used anything else in that same focal range on my camera.

I have got the Tamron 55-200mm (50 quid on ebay) and it seems pretty good. Have found that the autofocus can get a bit confused when zoomed into 200mm and have to zoom out to get it to focus properly again but that mite just be a fault with mine.

The plan next is the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8

Edit - ive got less than 100 posts and get get into the classifieds

Ahh yes but apparently i cant post in there....does this mean its ok for me to buy from there???...i suppose it is really...:thinking:

i've seen buyers with less post. maybe you have to have certain amount to advertise

my understanding is that you can buy kit thas is advertised for sale but you can't put up your own threads until 100 posts?
