Hi,
I have been looking to get myself another lens for my D7500,
Something that fits into the range of the others that I have,
Currently I’ve got a Sigma 18-35 1.8 Art, Tamron 70-300 Di II, and a Tamron 150-600 G2,
I was considering selling the 70-300 and replacing it with the Sigma 50-100 1.8 Art,
Basically I’m looking for something inbetween the 18-35 and the 150-600 range for when I don’t need anything as wide as 35mm and or as long as 150mm,
I’m not overly enthusiastic about the 70-300 I have hence why I would like to sell and get something a bit better,
Has anyone got any thoughts on what might be a good lens to fit this criteria,
I’m stuck on the Sigma 50-100 1.8,
But opinions please,
Thanks

How about a 24-120 f/4? almost fills the space between the 35mm long end of your Art lens and the 150mm short end of the longer Tamron. Won't give you the shallow DoF or low light grabbing capabilities of the 50-100 f/1.8 but does add extra range to the focal length (makes it a great walk around lens on FF but not so sure about Dx.)

70-200 F/2.8 would be my choice. Several to choose from.

70-200 f2.8 would be my idea too :)

I use one for Portraits the f2.8 is lovely for that

Personally I would go for your original plan, i.e. replace the 70-300 with the 50-100, whether you will miss the 15mm and 50mm difference is up to you, you can cover those areas either zooming with your feet or with a little bit of cropping... just my opinion mind.

The 50-100 should be a good option on DX and a nice match for your 18-35, but if you're looking at alternatives... how about a 70-200/4??? ...not /2.8 (or 1.8) but not much bigger than your 70-300.

Depends what you're looking for... focal length, aperture, more recent resign...??? As you have a D7500, maybe even one of the new AF-P 70-300s??

What do you like to shoot? Your lens choice should reflect that. I used to think I needed a lens to fit everything focal length between 10mm and 600mm and then when I looked at my photos and saw what I actually used, I had a bunch of lenses that needed selling, because they weren't getting used.

Now I'm going back to digital, I know I need a lens to cover between 20mm and 35mm for the kind of landscape photography I enjoy shooting, plus a 50mm walk around lens and a telephoto lens (85mm or 105mm) for the odd portrait and occasional telephoto needs.

Thanks for all the replies,
Basically I have my 18-35 for wide landscape shots and night images, and my 150-600 G2 for birds and aircraft,
But I just wasn’t something that sits nicely in between the two for when I don’t need too much or too little reach,
Some landscape shots I like to to zoom in on maybe a building in a field etc..
And with the 18-35 that’s not enough to get me there and 150 is too much,
So my thinking with 50-100 I’d be in the correct range to achieve this,
My tamron 70-300 VC DiII isn’t all that sharp and I find myself not wanting to use it because of that,
As I know how good my others are for sharpness,
