Hi All

I am downsizing my old computer stuff and have decided to go for a 15" or 17" Laptop to keep my desk/life as clutter free as possible. I have about £1000 to spend and want a laptop with a decent screen.

Which makes have decent reliability and decent screens?

Thanks in advance. :)

New or you happy to go used / refurbished?

Rather new if poss. Doesn't have to be super fast as I'm not a gamer. I'll be using it for general web browsing, Listening to music and photoshopCC editing. I'll get a SSD drive, some decent backup and prob 16GB ram.

Something like an i7 Dell Inspiron?

Yep, something like that or that if is is good for photo editing. Some screens seem to be poor when viewing at an angle. Are the Dell screens good?

This screen sounds interesting for photo editing for sure but a bit above your budget.
MSI WS60 6QH 15.6" Full HD Intel Skylake i5 Workstation Laptop £1138.99 from Scan PC.

Nice but by the time I have specced it it is well over my budget :( Nice though :)

Lenovo x230 with IPS screen 16gb ram and ssd £400 ish on ebay second hand. No need to pay a £1000 at all.

I think this is only a 13" screen though.

Dell screens are good. I'd look for a used Dell XPS15 9530 model or check with the Dell outlet for a more recent refurb for a little more cash.

Just seen an ad on to where dell are selling the xps15 for £200 off! Will have a look.

TBH some of the bad reviews are toss - like the girl claiming to order a custom model for $3000 that was DOA (Dell don't do custom models) or the complaint about the 9550 previous model. Had mine just over 3 years - Dell replaced the keyboard onsite under warranty at Christmas and I replaced the battery a few weeks back because it was starting to swell (still gave 2-2 1/2 hours use). Apart from that it's been fine. It would fulfill the OP's needs very well.

I have a Dell XPS15, excellent laptop, had it 3 years and no issues at all, fast and reliable, excellent screen, great for photo editing.

Know you preferred new but a used Lenovo w530 or w540 are both very good for editing especially if you can find one with the built in xrite calibration...
