Apple have just anounced a new 13" MBP , but more amazingly a super thin iMac.

Still getting details off the web . But the iMac sounds an amazing piece of technology

Has the option of SSD or conventional HD but new Fusion Drive ( no not from Star Trek) but a combination of SSD and HD. OS sits on SSD and HD used for other apps. However it will store frequently used apps on the SSD, and swap out ones that don't get used as much to the HD

Shipping November...

Drives like that have been around for years.

The new iMac looks great... Hmmm worth upgrading from the current one?

For all practical reasons probably not. but it does have some nice features

iPad mini just announced
along with a upgraded iPad

Is this the first time Apple have announced an iMac coming soon without the option to buy or pre order now ?

It does look a great bit of kit, and will the new 75% less reflective screen silence the detractors. Also Apple have done well in the secrecy department this time round, as everyone knew the mini ipad was coming, but don't remember rummers about the new iMac or 13" lappy.

I've been waiting for the mini. The iPad is too bulky for what I want and wanted the familiarity of Apple products. I know there are already grumblings on Twitter etc but the mini is perfect for me. Just need to decide if I want wifi only or sim too.

Not a standard combination dirve though. It's 2 separate drive put in what looks like a Raid0 style that switches in and out most used files automatically. If it works like claimed it looks pretty amazing. I have never seen it before. 3TB HDD & 128SSD combo.

I am gutted no major Aperture update. Time for Lightroom. I have held on too long and what I need has not appeared and no hint that it is coming any time soon.

You haven't been looking.

It's an Intel chipset technology: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Response_Technology

Been around for us PC users since May 2011 ;)

I was hoping that it would have been closer to the 200 pound mark. Might just have to go for the nexus 7.

Been waiting for this iMac for a while and think it looks great. My current iMac is a 2007 model with a brim full hard drive and a processor that struggles with image editing and takes ages to import images.

Think putting the SD card slot on the back is a bit daft but appreciate it would spoil the look elsewhere.....not sure it's even necessary with USB3. Will it be quicker than USB3 for uploading images?

I watched the presentation just now.....it's not 100% clear whether you have to have a Fusion Drive or whether you can specify a SSD and HDD separately. Certainly on the 27" model it looks like you can specify the SSD up to 768 GB and 3TB hard drive.

Have you used it? Does it work as well as it sounds?
Not used it - I need a newer motherboard than the one I have. Benchmarks are out there though ;)

I nearly bought a MacBook Pro 13" last night...

Glad I didn't now! 13" retina sounds lovely! Especially at education store prices!!
