New HTC OS Available

I got a notification on my Desire HD last night and downloaded the new 2.3 'Gingerbread' OS. It's quite a big download - took a while, as did the install.

There's quite a few improvements and a fair few changes in some areas of the phones display icons etc, but I haven't had chance to really have a good look at it yet.

Curiously, it's not showing as available on Jan's Desire so perhaps they're rolling it out to users in blocks?

yeah, network operators always drag their feet as they have to rebrand and retest etc.

OK - it seems I now have Near Field Proximity Communication. Great - WTF is it??

Near field communications, is a very short range wireless connection. Take a look here for a rough overview of the kind of things it can be used for.

the new 2.3 gingerbread is supposed to be uber slick especially when paired with the new galaxy s II phone.

I only just upgraded my hero to 2.1 yesterday...I wondered why my phone was lagging...lol

i think the normal desire release is a bit later on! Im waiting for mine, i think they say 25th may iirc.

Been running Gingerbread on my Desire for some time. It is a nice update over Froyo.

As mentioned it is not officially coming to the original Desire until later and then if you have a branded phone later still whilst the mobile operator puts their markings on it.

Mine is rooted and running the Cyanogen ROM which is optimised much further than the phone manufacturers will ever do.
