Hello everyone, Im from England

Im very new to photography, I have always been good at taking photos, I thought that i would take it up for something to do.
I had a photography friend many moons ago and her dream was to become an professional photography person, and she said that she couldnt do it due to the fact that she had to have an photography license before she could become freelance is this true?

Well I was wondering what kind of photos can you take without an business license that you can sell?

not sure if i understand u correctly and im sure some bods with better knowledge than me will be along soon to fill u in. As i understand it you can legally sell any picture you take on either your own or public property. It is considered wise and good manners to get a model release form if your selling photos of people but not a legal requirement in the uk. (well at least i think that is right)

I know you need a press pass thing for some stuff but not sure what.

Many of the ppl on here have websites selling prints and often the link to the site is in there signature, you could check some of those out to give you an idea of what others are doing.

Btw welcome to tp

and can those of you that actually know what ur talking about please correct me if im talking rubbish :)

You can become "freelance" without anything more than some pictures and a way of selling them. Any image you take is yours to sell or do what you like with providing they were taken legally, and if of a specific person (i.e. a model) a model release forrm would certainly be appropriate. You do not need any kind of licence to do anything. Press passes are hard to come by and normally only allow you into areas not open to the public, rather than to take pictures per se. Freelance just means you take the pictures then try to find someone to buy/publish them - so go ahead - you're now a freelance photographer!

Hey Nicole

Yup - kit yourself out with good gear, take some good shots, tell your mates/friends/family/the world, set up a means of selling them maybe a www site or such, and you're off.

Good luck...

Hello :)

As they said - just do it!

But wait until you are good enough to sell with confidence. It takes a lot more than just owning a nice camera ;)
