I know little about photography and even less on PP. This place is certainly going to help me in climbing the photography mountain of which its many peaks disappear beyond the clouds.

as a relative newcomer to digital [50years with film] i would start simple

shoot your images in 'jpeg' format till you learn the camera

then when you see what improvements/changes you want to make - buy PP software

it's complex or easy as you choose
i got PhotoShop Elements 7 - has 3 levels....I use #2 a lot till i learn more
1...guided tour
2...easy fixes
3...total control

now all the pundits will say 'shoot RAW' - you can recover so many mistakes in PP
true ...........but dont run before you can walk...
