Hi all

Just a quick message to introduce my self
I started to get in to photography about 2 years ago started reading online etc but at that time I only had a cheap compact camera so was limited with what I could do but in may I finally bought my 1st dslr for holiday and really good into it and got the bug. Since then I have been watching videos learning about the settings on the camera and now I'm ready to try and learn more and try and make a go of photography I'm very interested in wedding photography I know uo at think I'm mad but that's what I like and no before any one says it I'm not going to jump straight in like some people have done and blown it i I have a long term plan over the next 2 years
And my plan is pretty straight forward hopefully start shooting pictures of people landscape etc so I know I am confidante with the camera settings etc then move on and hopefully help with some pros for free at studios and/or weddings etc for about a year to 18months until I build a portfolio and am confident with my quality of work.
So if anyone is from South Wales area like to help me out I would be very great full

Current equipment
Nikon d3200 with 18-55 kit lens
Sigma 70-300 with macro lens

Hi Matthew and welcome to TP.
If you really want help from other photographers to set up in wedding photography you would be better looking for help outside your own area as people are reluctant to help you to become their own competition.
For the landscape side of things keep a look out in the meeting forums as we go out into the beacons etc. on a regular basis and you will be more that welcome to join us.

Hi Andy thanks for the advice just curious what would you consider my local area would you consider that all of South Wales or just more local like for example I'm from the rhondda so just don't ask anyone from the rhondda

welcome to the forum fella

Asking a local Photographer to help you become his COMPETION is not eally going to get you anywhere - if you think about that for a moment.....................

You may have more luck trying outside your LOCAL area, as not to represent a thread to the Local Photographers living

good luck in whatever you choose to do  enjoy the forum

The way to look at it is how far will the local photographers travel to shoot a wedding. I'm not a wedding tog myself but from reading on here I would think around 50 miles would be about the range of travel although it could be a lot further. If you think they travel 50 miles and you did the same you need to be at least 100 miles from them so as not to clash.

 Welcome aboard Matthew - good to see another member from South Wales.
As you'll see if you search some of the threads in the business section, wedding photography is a tough area to break into for some of the reasons already touched on in this thread.

Good to see that you have a sensible plan to build up to it though rather than jumping in feet first and I wish you all the best luck with it.

Once you've been here long enough to get access to the job offers section you may occasionally find opportunities advertised for assistants at weddings. For now, as you already said, start slow, enjoy your camera, learn your way around it and keep shooting, practicing and asking here for feedback every opportunity you get.

Definitely look at the meets section for landscape shoots too as Andy said.
I've yet to manage to make it to one, but I know there's a very active group of members locally.
