New Free Lightroom Preset: old 35mm film

Thanks for the preset Hamish, keep them coming mate.

Richard it's adding over a stop exposure and 59 brightness, take those back down to what you like and see how it looks then.
Here I just tweeked it a bit to suit the image I was working on.

yeah, like I say in the blog - it works for some images but not all...and sometimes needs some tweeking to make it fit.
interesting its coming up as 'light green' thats its old name...oh well :)

glad you like it, will cook up a b&w one for next time I think

Presets often need a bit of ajustment image for image, unless they are very simple minor ajustments, it's the nature of the beast that many images differ greatly, and will require different setting to get exactly the same effect.

By way of return heres a link to some of my presets (5) give then a go and let us know what you think, Thanks again Hamish.

I think this is why a lot of people dont like recommending presets to newbies because they then treat them as a quick fix to a picture and don't adjust them according to the actual content of the image.

What would be helpful would be for a website giving the presets away to include a breakdown of the actions included so people can then understand what's being applied and know the best place to make tweaks. Now someones going to tell me that already happens rght? :)

If you just double click Hamish preset it shows up as a text document (well it does for me on IE) this shows all the parameters in it, although it might be confusing to a beginner, as theres so much in it.

Yes I thouht about that afterwards and it's kind of contradictory isn't it - what I said I mean. I newbie will use presets while he/she learns. A breakdown of whats happening in order to fine tune isn't much help at that point.

For those of us who are lucky enough to have the understanding through experience the breakdown is more useful. I haven't got into preset ations yet but having just got Lightroom (looks good but lot to learn) I am guessing they save a load of time.

I believe the idea is to right-click>save as (on a PC) or Option>save as (on a Mac)
that downloads the .lrtemplate file, I'll amend the post accordingly.
if you simply click on the link instead of downloading it browsers tend to open and read it directly, which I agree is somewhat careless of it but there you go.

For the next one I'll will put up a clearer set of instructions perhaps...I think anyone with half and ounce of brain matter acknowledges that no one setting can be applied to every photo. much the same way you wouldn't use the same settings and timings etc in a darkroom

maybe if I pack it as a zip file that would be easier and avoid confusion?
