Yes
A few of us Digital "Only" photographers in Redditch, Worcestershire have decided to form our own camera club that will concentrate on all things digital photography wise and assosciated software / techniques etc..

We are a mix of like minded men and women who are keen to develop our own hobbies whilst also assisting in the development and introduction of this great hobby of ours to beginners.

We have a great venue who are really keen to have us there and an enthusiastic bunch of people keen to make this a real success.

Our first meeting is on the 6th February at Webheath Village Hall, Webheath, Redditch from 7.30pm and then subsequently every Tuesday evening....

Setting this club up is very new experience to us but we felt that we needed a club that fully met our photography needs and future requirements.

There is obviously a lot of very good advice and experience on this site, if anyone has any tips that they could offer in the future they would be gratefully received.

We have an interesting diary planned for the year but suggestions in this area for the future would also be welcome.

Finally if any of you fine folk happen to be on business or visiting North Worcestershire on a Tuesday in the future you would be made more than welcome at our new club

Go for it! :)

good luck, why not invite members here also, you can never have enough information at your fingertips!

Matty - we will direct all new members to this site of course, there are already 5 of us who use the site on a regular basis a few who met through this site, so already this forum site has contributed to the start of our NEW club.

excellent.

(muhahahahahaha...*strokes white fluffy cat and plans further world domination*)

Ok, But how do we find a photographer for the opening ceremony??

Nice one Richard ... hope it is a great success for you ...

All credit to you for having the balls to go for it ... ;)

:p

Richard

The advertiser states that the first meeting is on the 13th not the 6th. Is this correct for the public, ie me?

Steve

Steve - the first meeting on the 6th is to finalise the diary and put people into positions etc....

The first full Public Meeting is on the 13th, but you are most welcome to come and join us next week on the 6th.

Be good to see you there....

Richard

heathens!

I dont think they are stopping anyone who still uses film Whitewash, its just that the club that some of us were previously members of had no interest in digital photography, and were not prepared to invest any of the money raised to aid the newer members/digital photographers.

They were happy doing what they do, and the use of digital cameras and computers to manipulate/edit/enhance photographs was very alien to them, as a result nothing digital was included in the programme of events, or covered over the year.

When I first attended the club, I noticed a big generation gap. I was the youngest member at the time with the majority of people around 30+ years older than me.

I find it a real shame that we have had to set-up a new club because of the wealth of photographic experience that the older members have, but ours needs and those of any new members looking to find out about digital photography were not being met, this results in people becoming dis-interested or going it alone.

Richard has been a driving force in setting up the new club, and if the current level of enthusiasm by him and the members can be maintained, I have no doubt that the club will be a very friendly and successful club, and already has a good mix of people (old, youngish, male and female members, with both amature and semi professional togs).

So welldone to Richard (and Double Agent who is another member here) and I'm confident is saying everyone is welcome, not jus the heathens :D

I have made enquiries to local camera clubs and out of the 5 i contacted only two had any members with digital cameras

I've always steered clear after viewing websites. Any one else in the Surrey area interested in the idea???

Yeah, i wont be bothering now.

In what steering clear, or setting up a club? :D

LOL - good point. Conveying what's in my head has always been a problem (fortunatley for the masses;)).

Always steered clear of the rather stuffy 'camera's are olny camera's when they contain film' brigade. I think a digital camera club is an excellent idea and wondered if anyone in the Surrey area would be interested.......?

does that make sense now? :p

Jonnyreb - Well depending on what was planned I'd be interested (the words "Camera Club" brings to mind of a load of anoraks who think a D-SLR is the spawn of Satan) - Being near you I'd also say that with three counties (Surrey Hants & Berks) on our doorstep there should be enough interest (?)
Paul

Cool - I'll start a new thread to avoid hijacking this one further - if we get a couple more interested parties it sounds like a goer :)

Posted in your thread Jonny. More than willing to guide you along if you need it m8. Its new to us and you could benefit from some of our experiences as we go through it.

That would be great thanks - nice to know there is plenty of interest going around too :)

Thanks for all your encouragement, a week on after a few of us made the decision to form this NEW club, it still seems a GOOD idea!!

Our first get together is next Tuesday and our first full "public" meet is on the 13th......we will keep you all posted on our progress.

Good luck Richard and jonny

Just thought I would let you all know the first night of the new club was a great success. I arrived late and couldn't get in the room because so many people had turned up (about 30 I think).

Richard, I am told introduced the night and expalined the ethos of the club, along with the reasons for setting it up and confirmed the initial programme of events.

Presentations/demo's were then provided by founder members. I arrived during the demo of the Picasa2 software, which seemed to go down well with people who were new to digital photography.

Next week, is: Understanding Your Camera
Bring along your Photographic Equipment to learn more about it and also "Caring for your Camera".

Only time will tell if the club is a success but welldone once again to Richard and the others who have put the hardwork in setting the club up.

PS. dont worry Matty, I'm sure we can get the new members signed up here as well. :D
