Hi guys and girls,

I'm not sure if you in the market for a new laptop but having just changed mine on Friday I thought I'd give it a thumbs up. I've had a few i7 HP laptops followed by a Samsung G7C Gaming Laptop. I don't really play games and because I have a really bad back the weight of the 17.3 heavy laptop was starting to annoy me. I decided to downsize to a 15.6" as I felt I couldn't live with anything smaller. I'd been having a look around at what was available and I think I found the perfect photographers laptop for travel and who wants to stay on Windows. It's the new Dell XPS 15. (Obviously I've know affiliation with the company). I went for the version with the 3200x1800 resolution display and 512GB SSD as I back up my images to a NAS anyway but that still gave me plenty of space. It has the the fourth gen i7 and 16GB of ram. The real bonus (apart from the display) is the weight - half the weight of my old Samsung and it is so thin for a 15" laptop. Sure I don't have a DVD/Bluray drive) but I can either use a USB version or my wife's laptop for that. To be honest I was able to install all my programs without the need for the disc anyway so it didn't matter.

The only bad point - the price. It is Macbook Pro money (although that is for one of the more basic models - equivalent 'i' model is £2199 so around £700 less) but £ for spec I think it is a belter of a machine for the money. Certainly the most impressive laptop I've ever used. The touchscreen is going to take a while to get used to. It does however feel natural for the apps in Windows 8.1 (and 8) like Flipboard because it is so like my phone. They say when you go Mac you never go back - I don't know. I've to much money invested in Windows programs and our mobiles are WP8.

Hopefully it will continue to impress me!

Thanks

Stevie

Just thought I'd add a few quick photographs in case anyone was interested in the styling of the laptop.

Pass no remarks on the dirt of the trackpad - didn't bother to clean it for this photograph as I was more interested at the time in going to bed!

Nice looking machine :)

Yup we've clients with the 13", great machines, very quick and light.
They have just gone end of life, with replacement models coming in january, hence there are good offers on them at the moment.

Thanks for the comments, really loving it so far. Just keeps getting better and using the touch part more than I thought. I'm hoping they don't replace the 15" model to soon - I doubt if they will when it has just been launched. I'd to wait several weeks for mine.

Thanks

Stevie

Looks pretty tidy.. Wonder if I can convince the boss it's time to upgrade our m6600s :D

I'll buy your old one if you want to upgrade...go on you know you want to! :p

Nom. That screen...

I like the Dell XPS a lot, we use the 12's heavily within Microsoft. Touch is one of those things that's actually quite nice when you have it. I don't use it a huge amount on laptops but I do like having the option...

Touch screen us not something I thought I would ever use in a laptop but I'm always touching the screen on my MacBook Air after using the iPad and wonder why it's not scrolling

Under 'specials' I notice the XPS13 can come with Lightroom 5 for an extra £55.
