Ive just got my new d40 but the manuals were japanese, so small question, how long do i need to charge the battery for on the first time. Thanks.

If you ring Nikon they will send you a new english manual for £5 including postage and packing !!

If you can't work out how to use the charger without the instructions, how the hell are you going to manage with something as complex as a DSLR?

You should be fine to charge until the charger reads charged. Many of the companies claiming that Li-Ion batteries need a 16hr charge the first time, haven't updated their documentation since NiMH batteries were around.

Cheers,
James

Now that's what I like - a little constructive comment.

As Moosh says it was not uncommon for equipment to have special instructions for the first charge. With Li-ion batteries you don't have to worry about anything more than the charge indicator.

Please do not make comments which are ill considered and personally insulting.

As said above the orange light will blink when the battery is charging and the orange light will stay on when its done :) the battery only fits in the charger one way so dont worry about getting it wrong
