I need to replace my cellphone and wondered if anyone had experience with the BB Z10? My previous phones had the 'real' keyboards and I'd also like to know how the on screen version compares.

I like BBs and the Z10 is - sort of - affordable (cash, no contract) compared with the iPhone, Samsung Galaxy - which is also too large - and the HTCs.

Thanks guys.

Everyone is leaving/has left BB, so apps, support and accessories will be limited.

Not odd, sensible

same story as windows phone 7.x. The owners were left alone almost as soon as the boxes were opened.

P.S. You don't have to buy extra large android. There are plenty of medium size (4.5") choices at different price points. Nexus 5 is worth a look and there are some good offers now.

Thanks everyone. Given it a bit of thought, and haven't decided yet.

We have the Z10 as a workphone, and thanks to the OS, it is the most counter intuitive phone I have ever had the misfortune to pick up - for the similar money, you could get an Iphone 4 or a Galaxy S3, which are both far better machines.

OK, thanks, but can you explain what you mean by counter intuitive? Just to put this into context, I've never owned or even handled a touch screen phone and have no basis for comparison.

I use a phone for calls, Whatsapp and mail when I'm travelling, and sms. The keyboard is important, and that's about it. I can't use a phone for anything that requires an internet connection unless I'm in range of wifi, because we only get a weak 2G signal here. The closest 3G is 20 miles away.

You will have a QWERTY keyboard on a Apple or Android device. It's just on a screen rather than a physical keyboards. I used to love my BB when I started having emails direct to phone when I was Self Employed, things have moved on and I much prefer the bigger screens of I-phones or Samsungs for the QWERTY keyboard. I have had a smaller touch screen phone but for my fat fingers it was a pain for pressing the wrong buttons. I think the last one I had was the ZZ10 or something which was popular for clocking or whatever they call it.

Martyn, if you're going in fresh and unsullied by experience or preference of existing smartphones, and if you think you may need a bit of help from time to time, I would suggest choosing whatever your friendly local techy has - which will probably be an Android or Apple phone.

The internet is great but sometimes there's no substitute for having someone show you in person how to do something (or, more importantly, undo something :))

I'm quite happy to pick up a new is and just use it, but when I tried to play with the z10 in store I just couldn't figure out how to do anything, and I'm a former blackberry owner.

I also swore I'd never move away from a real keyboard, now any portable device without a touchscreen seems clunky and hard to use!
