New canon 60d/7d whats next!

Canon rumors (the big hint in the reliability is in the name!) suggest that the 70d will be next and go back to the more solid xxd bodies seen before the 60d, bridging the gap between the 60d and 7d. There are rumours that the next 7d (or whatever it may be!) could be an aps-h sized sensor. Whatever happens I think that the 7d replacement will be some time in coming as they are releasing a significant software overhaul soon.

That's something only Canon know for definate...

With the massive firmware release for the 7D, there is talk that the 7D mkII may move up the range sightly and the 70D, as Jim says, move back in line, but when and if ???

I think by the time we have speculated about a new or improved technology, the technology has leapt forward again, it seems to be moving that fast.

This I think is part of the reason for the massive 7D update, that and to keep it distinct from the 650D which has a lot of features that have trickled down from the 7D & 5D, in fact apart from build I cant see a lot making someone wanting to buy a 60D over the 650D.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a 7D2 next year with the APS-H sensor in composite format to give the video focusing benefits recently seen with the 650D to take advantage of the stepper motored lenses, better noise handling, the ISO extended even further etc.

I think either a replacement for the 60D or a firmware update to unlock features that where omitted on the 60D such as micro focus adjustment are likely, the 60D in some ways hasn't lived up to the pedigree of the previous models.

I'm not sure about a replacement for the 650D, there is scope with a firmware update to enable more features and the 1100D would be the more likely candidate for an upgrade IMHO.
Maybe using a 15MP sensor, better video, larger rear screen or a multi angle rear screen

i think an APS-H 7D mark II would be absolutely awesome. I can't really see there is much of a gap left in the Canon range now they seem to be upping their game with the xxD series again.

I think for a lot of photographers, a 7D2 and 5D3 (with similar noise/iso characteristics and features, sans sensor) would be a match made in heaven.

There's a new 7D end of the month and a 60D in about 6-12 months.. so ive been told

By who?! I'd think if the new 7d was out in a few weeks we'd have heard something solid?

Ps - welcome to TP!

 They need to hurry up with an advertising campaign then Chris

An APS-H sensor in the 7D replacement would make no sense whatsoever.

I strongly suspect that we will see no further APS-H sensors from Canon now.

I am thinking of getting a 7D to replace my 350D and after reading around will be waiting till about Sept to see if Canon announce a 7D mkii! I seriously hope they do!

Considering the fact Canon are releasing a significant 7D firmware update within the next month, I can't see the 7D2 being released any time soon.

What he said. But in the next 7D incarnation I'm hoping for better ISO performance and maybe a 21mp sensor but I can't see them killing off their flagship aps-c body and turning it in a aps-h, just my opinion.

Whatever they come up with can't see it coming before they have a new crop sensor to put in it.

So my guess is nothing for a while yet and then probably a 70D once they have sold a lot more 7D's with the new firmware update.

Have a feeling the 7D will be the first and last of its line, damn fine camera, but sits at a very awkward place in the line up

The 7D was introduced to fill the massive gap between the xxD and the 1D. If the 7D was withdrawn then that gap would be reintroduced. It ain't gonna happen.

I had read this was one suggestion why the major firware was released, the new sensor wasn't ready just yet...

Another possible reason is they are shifting the models round some, the rumoured 70D is coming back in line with the older xxD models and the new / replacement 7D will move up slightly

Only Canon know for definate, but I wish they'd hurry up ...
