So Sold my Sony yesterday and now i have nothing and I'm in big need for my new camera my only problem is what camera? i just don't have a clue any input would be much appreciated atm i was torn between Nikon D5000 and the Sony A550 i have no lenses so I'm not tied to Sony.. Can someone help shine a light on my decision i like taking landscapes macro and sport if that's any help. Thanks :)

if you are interested in a Camera capable of great pics as well as HD movies consider the Canon 550D. If movies are not your thing the 500D is very similar and obviously cheaper.

I've also heard great things of the Pentax K-x

Another Sony? That in body IS will be great with some fast primes, or any lens, but with Canon and Nikon you don't get in body IS and therefore have a limited choice of IS lenses.

Yeh that was one reason i was swaying towards Sony again.... But i heard that quality of photos u need to go down the lines of Nikon? Also looking in stuff Mag the Nikon D5000 is number 1 in the Top 10

There's not that much in it really and Sony, Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, they all make good cameras. Just look at reviews, work out what's important to you and make a decision. I picked Nikon basically because I like the layout. My D90's a great camera, and personally the only two admittedly superficial things that I don't get with Canon cameras is what the different letters on the mode dial stand for, and I prefer my Nikons with the on off switch around the silver shutter button instead of a black button xD

Whenever I think that some new kit will make me a better photographer I look at pictures on the net taken with the gear I have or lesser gear and I realise that I have a long way to go before I produce pictures like that.

I'm pretty sure that a Nikon or even a another make will suit you just fine and enable you to grow as a photographer. I certainly wouldn't worry about being limited by a Sony.

Go to a real life shop, and ask to check out the cameras in your price range. None of the major manufacturers make complete dog's these days - the most important thing your camera needs is to be the right camera for you. If it feels right, handles right and all the controls just "fall neatly to hand" then you'll enjoy using it. If you enjoy using it, you'll use it more. If you use it more, you'll get better at taking photo's. If you get better at taking photo's you'll enjoy it more. And there you are in an upward spiral, feeling happier and taking better photos.

I bought a EOS450d, which in retrospect is a bit small and fiddly for my less than dainty hands. I've also got a EOS-3 film camera, which just handles right and fits perfectly. One of 'em costs nothing to press the shutter on. The other one costs money for every frame of film exposed. Guess which one I use for pleasure ??
