Last year I asked you knowledgeable lot about a body upgrade. At the time I was looking at a 7D vs 1D MkIII. I ended up going 7D as I didnt want to lose any length from lenses (upgraded from a 450D) and it was cheaper at the time and also picked up a second hand Sigma 120-300.

Ive been mulling a jump to FF (again!), for no other reason really other than im hoping that the larger sensor will give me a slight improvement in image quality.

I shoot a variety of things, not just motorsport, but motorsport works my gear the hardest and therefore I am prioritising that.

Options;
A) Upgrade to a 5D3
B) Upgrade to a 1D4 (keep a bit of length)
C) Stop being silly and keep the 7D (perhaps look for a second hand 300 2.8 IS)

If you were buying a new body at the moment which of the above would you buy and why? I've heard the AF on the 5D3 is a slight improvement over the 1D4 but would be open to either option. :)
 
Alot of people rate the 7D very highly ( i havnt used it my self so cant comment) so personally i'd keep that and spend the money on decent glass, but i'd throw the 70-200 2.8 is into the mix with either a 1.4 or 2x converter, coupled with the crop factor of the 7D thats quite a bit of reach and plenty of low light capability with the 2.8.

Personally i use the 5DIII for motorsport and it works very well, not got any examples online atm but i'll upload a few later on for you too look at if you like, i personally dont find the drop in reach all that bad, the image quality, AF and high iso capabilities though are stunning
 
Unless you have deep pockets for glass, APS-C or APS-H is where you want to be for motorsport.

The 7D is pretty good, not as good as a 1D MkIV but one is about 1k and the other 3k... which is better is obvious but again, unless you plan to make a lot of money from it, get some decent glass on the 7D and you will be fine (Canon 300 2.8 and Canon 70-200 2.8)

I am currently using the 5d3 and it is really good, if you shoot other things as well i could well suggest you to buy one, I never used the 1d4 on the field and so i cannot compare the two
