Well i have a canon 300D the standard lens and a 70-300 sigma (the cheep one) now im no pro and have no intension's of becoming one, all i want is to be able to take decent photos, so be honest and harsh, do i need to sell up and upgrade or will i getaway with just getting a decent lens, i have been looking at the canon 70-300 IS one, im mainly into motor sports or any other sport to be honest.

So what to do?

I am a newbie to all this , you sound a lot more advanced, anyway I have spoken to quite a few people who I consider to be knowledgeable and the opinion seems to be that the 300d is perfectly serviceable.I have also been advised to buy the best glass that I can and when and if I upgrade it can all transfer onto the new Canon assuming I stay with the brand. My 2ps worth anyway. Regards Jim

The glass will be holding you back far more than the 300D ever will.
I don't believe that the 70-300 IS is your ideal choice though. I really think you should be looking for a second hand 70-200 f/4L....they're available for a similar price. The IS won't help you much with motorsport and the 70-200 L is one of the best value for money lenses you could wish for.

ok cheers bob, ill bare that in mind, is there any reason not to bother with the IS?

i understand why to go for better glass.
