Hi all I just sold my Lowepro slingshot aw 302 as it was too big for everyday use and I'm on the market for a new bag but this time I'm after a messenger type bag that can hold a 550D with 15-85 and a 70-300 plus internal pockets for ipad or magazine or passport or other accessories and pockets for memmory cards etc. here is where it gets complicated as I want to be able to zip the bag to stop sand getting in the bag when at the beach rather than just the traditional Velcro flap, budget is around £40 max. help please...

I am looking for a camera bag that doesnt look like a camera bag but can carry a camera and maybe 2 lenses!

Have you thought about those inserts that can fit in to regular messenger bags? (or indeed a lot of different bags). That way you can get a bag you like and just retrospectively fit the padding. I did it when i was travelling and preferred it as the bag I used looked nothing like a camera bag.

Its finding a nice bag that doesnt look like a camera bag that is the problem for me.

mmm well what do you prefer? Leather man bag? Pink and proud? tbh a bit of time spent on EBay can go a long way. Also if you do prefer the small leather messenger bag Fossil and White Stuff have some nice looking options. But honestly it's more finding that bag for you.
In regards to Ebay, measure you camera & accessories that you want to keep in there, add some extra on for padding (or check out the Amazon options) and then go look, and just keep the measurements in mind while you peruse the bags :)

Thank you all for the reply's I really like the crumpler pretty boy xxl and the crumpler 5500 muffin top and just found a lowepro event messenger 150 but it seems the lowepro isn't in stock anywhere!..

Tenba Messanger Mini available in a range of colours LINK and LINK

You can also get an insert LINK and just buy a shoulder bag to fit it in

The Event Messenger is a great bag - I've got the 100 for my OMD plus lenses - but it doesn't have zip closure at the top which is why I didn't recommend it after reading your OP. Apart from that, the 150 would probably be perfect for your needs if you could source one. I bought mine from WEX but they're currently showing the 150 on backorder. Good luck with the hunt, anyway.

Another one I considered was the Crumpler Cupcake - have you looked at those?

Thank u for the reply, yes I have been looking at the cupcake too but it seams the muffin top has a front pocket and the cupcake one doesn't although that is just from pic's I've looked at on the net.

Billy I just noticed the "zip up to keep sand out" in your original post, the Tenba does not, so that would not be suitable, sorry.

It's ok I don't think there is many bags of this sort that have a zip so I might have to compromise some how. Thank u

Yeah, that format is thin on the ground it seems despite it being a very sensible design. I went for a manfrotto messenger bag with a top zip for ergonomic and aesthetic reasons - it's easy to grab the camera and it doesn't look like a camera bag - but it's vulnerable to sand so no good for you.

I'd suggest looking for a regular bag to suit and adding a padded insert...

If only the Ortlieb zip city was a bit cheaper...

I ordered a Koolertron bag from Amazon today; they had great bags priced at abou £35 inc shipping that looked nothing like the ''traditional'' camera bag. Nice range of pockets and a removable, three-section insert.

I know the deal has now expired, but picked up this the other week...

It was £30/35 (can't remember to be honest), it also came free with a half decent monopod. It has a zip top, metal clip, lots of room for my iPad and camera plus lenses.

Cheers mate, I went to jessops today and the Manfrotto unica V was advertised as £34.99 and when they scanned it through the till they tried to charge me £69.99 for it! WTF! Just went on their website and it still is £34.99 for the red one. I guess the guy just didn't like my face! :-) ps: just ordered one of eBay £35 new

No probs mate, I did that, reserved the red one online and went is store. I asked if I could grab another colour and was like 'Sure, no worries, while is very subtle, but black wont as dirty', so i picked the white one and I love it, great big bag..:D

I had a bag made by courierware in the US. Fully customisable with zips, pockets, size, colour and photo inserts. Best bag I own. It costs though, mine was about £200. Deffo does not look like a camera bag.

I'll add another vote for the LowePro Classified... I picked up the 250AW on here a while ago for a good price. I use it for weddings and find it to be very useful. :)

Hey Billy - good choice! That's the one I went for - I would have recommended it sooner but I could't see it being great for stopping sand ingress (but then I couldn't see any bag being that great - sand seems to get anywhere and in everything in my experience!

I hope you find the bag as good as I'm finding it. Only prblem I've found so far is that decent tripods won't fit in the small tripod compartment - still, it's a useful section for a waterproof.

Ur right sand does get everywhere but when I do hit the beach I would probably be extremely careful with it as I was with the lowepro aw 302 slingshot. I like the fact that it has a laptop pocket although my one won't fit in as it's a 17'' hp it would still be very useful for iPad/ mags or all sort of stuff, as for the tripod compartment I don't use a tripod so it wouldn't matter too much, but I'll probably get a monopod at some point if I think I'll ever need one.
